Untitled 6 (Last Week) (excerpt)

He said 'that's just fine! i like sticky!' he seemed overexcitied, seemed to bark his words in a high pitched yet still somehow masculine voice, eyes a bit more wild than I liked them. he stopped shaking my hand, but held on to it, and leaned in close. He said 'you know, you're the only one out here who knows how to pick 'em right. You twist the stem slowly till it breaks! The rest of these GODDAM IDIOTS JUST RIP 'EM RIGHT OFF THE PLANT! But you do it right. That way you don't bruise the top of the berry, ya smart fella!' He whispered at first, then shouted, then got back down to whispering, and when he was done speaking, started to pump my hand again, twice as fast, twice as vigorously, chuckling like he was the last nut on the last tree of a hazelnut orchard.
Oh, this passage is quite the rollercoaster of emotions and styles, isn't it? The writer's voice is unique, capturing the eccentricity of the character in a way that's both vivid and engaging. The use of dialogue propels the story forward while simultaneously showcasing a distinct writing style - the abrupt shifts in volume and tone, coupled with the erratic punctuation, make it feel as though we're experiencing the scene through the character's frenzied perspective. Structurally, the passage is quite sound, with the repetition of the phrase "he said" effectively mimicking the back-and-forth of conversation. However, there are a few areas where the mechanics could use some work - the sentence about the character's voice seems a bit clunky, and the transitions between whispering and shouting could be smoother. Emotionally, it's a thrilling ride - the character's enthusiasm is infectious, and the interspersed expletives add a nice touch of authenticity. The themes are subtly woven in, too: the importance of patience and skill, and the value of being a careful observer in a world full of careless actions. Overall, it's a captivating snippet that leaves me eager to see how the story unfolds.
