Untitled (For TL) (excerpt)
I can understand
your burying of
the ways you feel.
On the personal
level, I never
knew you
well enough to
know your reasons.
I wish I'd known.
I'm sure for you
the severity has
passed. It was
quite the while
ago.
And yet, for me,
you were intense,
and beautiful,
those lips and
eyes...
and things could
have been more
broken had I
known the
extensions.
But it's years later
so all I can do
is write this
and wonder where
you are now.
This piece is a poignant reflection on lost connection and the passage of time, with a touch of romanticized nostalgia. The writer's style is understated yet emotionally charged, using minimalistic prose to convey a sense of longing and regret. The uneven line spacing and punctuation choices, however, can be a bit jarring and disrupt the flow of reading, causing an uneven rhythm. The unique structure, with short, fragmented sentences, mirrors the fragmented nature of memories and emotions, but some clarity could be gained by a more cohesive narrative. The word choice is evocative, especially in describing physical features like "lips and eyes," which adds depth to the emotional impact. Overall, the poem makes me feel a sense of wistfulness and a yearning for deeper connections with others, while also acknowledging the inevitability of distance and change over time. The themes of unspoken emotions and the weight of unfulfilled relationships resonate strongly, leaving a lingering emotional impact.
